Musings on all things Rome from Via della Mercede.
Lobsters on Via Veneto… and not on a plate
We are continuing to enjoy the art installations on Rome’s famed and beloved Via Veneto, just a short walk away from the apartment. Last time we were here, there were weird art installations, such as a giant water bottle with legs, from Austrian artist Erwin Wurm.
Clearly, the folks organizing these installations like weird things. This month, the art consists of giant pop art lobsters. These sculptures are by British artist Philip Colbert. They are big, bright, and fun, with definite nods to Andy Warhol and Vincent Van Gogh. The installation, which the artist calls his Lobster Empire, will run until January 8, 2023.

Considering the urinal, I assume this is a nod to Marcel Duchamp

Land shark lobster?
Lobster in a spotted flower – a nod to Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama?
The banana lobster has lots of appeal (ba dum dum!)
“Perseus the Lobster” with head of Medusa, and streaming blood – eek!
An awful lot going on here
If you are in the neighborhood, the artist has a little pop up store here as well.

They’ve got a good string going on Via Veneto! We look forward to seeing what they install here next.
